Ancaster break-in attempt

First Published:

What appears to be an attempt to break into an Ancaster home was caught on camera.

The homeowners posted the surveillance video on Facebook, and with the help of the public, police were quick to identify the three women involved.

Two of the women are already in police custody, and a warrant is about to be released for the third woman involved.

It was a brazen move in broad daylight.

Rebecca Swirsky and her partner Kyle had been out celebrating passover on Friday, when they were alerted by their alarm company of activity on their property.

Their homes surveillance video captured this.

Three women pull up to their home, two of the three don’t even bother to cover their faces.

Swirsky says once the women knew no one was there, they tested the doors, then they pulled out what appears to be a lock cutter from their SUV.

When that did not work, one of the women pushed through the gate and all three made their way into the backyard.

Swirsky says that’s when all the women run out of the backyard into their SUV.

The homeowners say their biggest concern was their two dogs who were inside of the home at the time.

Luckily no one managed to get inside.

The homeowners posted the video on Facebook with hopes that someone would recognizing the women it was viewed over 100,000 times in 24 hours.

“People reached out from everywhere. They were posting the video, they were enraged about all of this” says Swirsky

Brantford Police have two of the women in custody on unrelated offences, one woman is still at large. A warrant will be put out this week for her arrest.

Its all thanks to the Facebook video.

The homewowners say they were overwhelmed by the support and tips they received online.

Hamilton Police have not yet released the names of the women, as they have not yet been charged. Charges are pending for attempt to break and enter.
