A man originally from Fort Erie has been killed in the Dominican Republic, in what his mother says was a robbery in the middle of the night.

Police in the Dominican Republic have said 43 year old Jay McGuire was killed last night, in the town of Sosua, which is in the Puerto Plata province.

According to his mother she claims her son was shot just after midnight, by a group of men trying to rob him.

CHCH has reached out to the Department of Foreign Affairs Canada for more information but have not received any details.

They do say they are looking into it and will get back to us with details.
