Firefighters continue to battle the blazing forest fires in northern Ontario.
The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources say there were 122 active fires as of Monday, including 42 in the Northeast region, 19 of which are deemed out of control.
Experts are saying that these fires can have long-term effects on the environment, while noting that the increasingly warmer and drier weather conditions are making the blazes more common.
The largest fire called the “Parry Sound 33” is more than 110 square kilometers in size and has prompted numerous evacuations.
The fire has been burning since July 18 and can potentially burn off all of the vegetation and organic soil in the area, leaving only ashes and rocks.
