Molson Coors to produce cannabis-infused drinks

First Published:

Molson Coors Canada is looking to hop into the recreational-marijuana industry.

The business arm of Molson Coors Brewing Company says it has entered into a joint venture to develop non-alcoholic, cannabis-infused drinks.

On October 17, recreational marijuana is set to become legal in Canada but edible products infused with pot will remain illegal until the government imposes the necessary regulations.

Those regulations are expected to be rolled out sometime in 2019.

The joint venture with Hydropothecary Corporation, a Quebec-based company will be a standalone start-up with its own board and management team, with Molson Coors Canada having 57.5% interest.

The venture is subject to numerous approvals and is set to close before September 30.
