Impaired driving on the QEW sends six people to hospital

First Published:

A crash on the QEW sent 6 people to hospital and police have arrested a man for impaired driving.

First responders are working carefully to free a man through the back of a vehicle after a crash that happened this morning. The damage is very severe that the SUV resembles a pick up truck. Police said it’s a shock that no one was killed.

“It does appear that impaired driving was certainly a contributing factor in this collision”. “Those five occupants all went to hospital.”

OPP have said the driver of the vehicle was arrested and is facing charges of impaired driving causing bodily harm and possibly additional charges of dangerous driving in a collision that caused serious injuries.

Both the east bound and westbound lanes were closed for hours for the investigation only reopening at 11:30 this morning, causing major back ups. Debris from the crash was sent flying over the median to the other side of the highway and damaged several other cars. No one was hurt as a result of the debris.

Police are still speaking to witnesses and continuing to investigate.
