Police locate driver that hit a cyclist in Hamilton

The driver involved in a hit and a run Wednesday morning in downtown Hamilton has been identified.

Police reviewed video and spoke to witnesses which confirmed the driver did stop and assist the cyclist off the road, but did not remain to speak with the police.

Police have charged a 40-year-old Hamilton man with driving while under suspension and failing to report an accident.

The 52 year old cyclist, who was also from Hamilton, was charged with failing to stop at a red light.

The cyclist was transported to hospital and remains in stable condition.

Hamilton police are reminding people that it is your responsibility as a driver to remain at the scene of a collision.
