U.S. man charged with hate crime over shirt incident

A man seen in a video harassing a woman in a Chicago park for wearing a Puerto Rico shirt is now facing hate crime charges.

Timothy Trybus is seen in a video that went viral repeatedly yelling and walking toward Mia Irizarry.

She was in a gazebo she had reserved for a birthday party.

In the video, Trybus can be heard telling Izizarry “you should not be wearing that shirt in the United States of America.”

Irizarry complains to a Cook County Forest Preserves officer that the man is harassing her.

The officer doesn’t respond.

He has since resigned from the force.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office says 62-year-old Trybus is now charged with two felony counts of committing a hate crime.

That’s in addition to misdemeanor counts of assault and disorderly conduct he already faced.
