One person has died, another has been injured in a house fire in Dundas early Monday morning.
Fire crews were called to the home on Greening Court around 4 a.m. and found flames and heavy smoke.
“Right away we had an indication that there was somebody inside so crews immediately went into search and rescue,” said Hamilton Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe.
“They were able to locate a person in the home, they brought the person out and immediately turned them over to paramedics. Unfortunately, that person has succumbed to their injuries.”
Hamilton Police say the deceased is a woman in her 60s.
Firefighters removed another person, a man in his 60s, from the home.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A pet dog was found by firefighters alive in the basement and was turned over to a neighbour.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate.
It’s not yet known what caused the fire.
