Ontario Fire Marshal investigating after a house fire in Burlington

First Published:

The Ontario Fire Marshal was called to investigate the cause of a house fire in Burlington late last night.

The fire broke out in the rear of the house on Cavendish Drive south of Upper Middle just after 9 o’clock.

Flames and smoke billowing from the back of the home where the fire broke out.

Crews worked quickly to get the blaze under control.

Investigators say a neighbour heard the smoke detectors going off but no one was inside at the time. Early this morning, crews were still at the scene to make sure any hot-spots were put out.

The Platoon Chief told CHCH news they estimate the damage to be more than $500,000.

The Ontario Fire Marshal says they are looking at whether or not this fire was suspicious.

They say the family was notified but it is unclear whether or not they will be permitted back inside their home. The Fire Marshal’s office suggests leaving emergency contact details with a neighbour if you have plans to be away from your home for an extended period of time.
