Hamilton police responded to a 911 call today shortly after 11 am outside the Jackson Square mall doors on King st E.

A mother and her 4 year old child were standing on the sidewalk when an unknown female approached them from behind, grabbed the child and attempted to take off.

Two bystanders heard the mother screaming and stepped in front of the female to stop her. The mother was then able to get her child back.

A 19 year old female from Hamilton is charged with child abduction and will appear in court Thursday morning.
