Audio leaked of children crying for their parents

First Published:

An audio recording of children crying for their parents at the U.S./Mexico border has been leaked from ProPublica – a non profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest.

The heartbreaking sobs of children being processed by American border officials is causing outrage over President Donald Trump’s decision to separate children from their migrant parents when they cross over the border illegally.

Trump is standing by his decision, and Republicans have previously denied ownership of this separation policy. It’s a new zero tolerance approach to illegal crossing where all adults are prosecuted criminally, whereas before, most were deported and not jailed. The children are separated from their parents for this process because they are not charged with a crime, their parents are, and they cannot accompany their parents in jail.  While the parents are in jail, the children are living in cages.

Senator John McCain is adding his voice to the growing number of Republican politicians against President Donald Trump’s policy of
separating the families of illegal migrants.

McCain says the policy is”an affront to the decency of the American people” and contrary to principles and values that America was founded on.

UNICEF says it is heartbreaking that babies have been taken from their parents.
