Two Toronto sisters who were shot Thursday afternoon at a Scarborough playground are expected to survive.

Police say the sisters, ages five and nine, were seriously injured when at least 10 shots were fired around 5 p.m. The youngest was hit in the stomach and the other in the leg.

The pair were taken to hospital where they were admitted and underwent surgery for their injuries.

Police say their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators believe the intended target was a man who was among the children in the playground.

The shooter left the area in a  black, four-door Nissan Versa sedan. The vehicle has since been found in the area of Liverpool rd and Highway 2 in Pickering.
