Singapore Summit

First Published:

There is always two sides to every negotiation. In terms of the US, it hopes to convince North Korean Dictator Kim Jung Un eliminates weapons of mass destruction programs.

Countless video of nuclear missle tests out of North Korea shows that the small country’s program is strengthening. It’s military even claimed that it has a missle that’s strong enough to strike anywhere on the US mainland.

The Prime Minister of Singapore feels that the thirty-four-year-old leader’s ears are open.

Political scientist George Breckenridge, however, feels that the US does not have a chance with disarming North Korea.

Breckenridge says while the US sanctions are an issue, he feels that Kim Jung Un sees the summit as confirmation that his nuclear weapons are now worth noticing.

The lone country that could benefit? South Korea. President Moon Jae-In set up the meeting and doing so could help ease tensions between the two Koreas, who are working to officially end conflict between the neighbouring countries.

Breckenridge also mentioned how President Trump’s quick departure from the G7 summit to meet with Kim Jong Un put salt on the wounds he caused over the weekend in Quebec, however, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he’s confident all members of the G7 will continue to move forward.
