U.S. Secretary of State briefs reporters ahead of historic summit

First Published:

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo briefed reporters this morning about the sanctions that are in place between the U.S. and North Korea ahead of tomorrow’s historic summit.

Pompeo’s remarks come as U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un prepare for their highly anticipated summit. The summit is expected to settle a standoff over the north’s nuclear arsenal.

Thousands of journalists are following Kim’s every move, a reflection of the intense global curiosity over his sudden turn to diplomacy after several nuclear and missile tests raised fears of war.

This summit will be the first between a North Korean leader and a U.S. President. It will start with a one-on-one session with translators.
