Historic resort building in Nova Scotia burns down

First Published:

Inverary Resort in Cape Breton went up in flames on the morning of June 7.

Our Diana Weeks was staying at the hotel in Baddeck at the time of the fire.

She says the fire alarm went off at around 2 a.m.

By the time it was 3 a.m., the entire building was engulfed in flames, and destroyed.

Weeks was told the fire began in the pub.

There are other lodges on the resort, however, this was the main lodge with reception, a pub and guest rooms.

Weeks says the location of the resort is very remote, which made it difficult for fire crew to arrive quickly.

According to the Inverary resorts website, the building has been around since the late 1800’s.
