Dangerous intersection in NOTL

First Published:

A dangerous intersection in Niagara-on-the-Lake has been the scene of nearly 30 crashes in the past 5 years. Now a town councillor is demanding that the region take serious steps to address the issue before more people are injured.

Niagara regional police have reported 28 crashes at the intersection of Four Mile Creek road and Line 3 road in the past 5 years.

Currently the intersection operates as a two-way stop, with stops signs with flashing lights placed on Line 3 road for drivers travelling in either direction. Niagara-on-the-Lake councillor Paolo Miele says he’d like to see it turned into a 4-way stop, but before the town can do so they need approval from the region.

Tuesday night the region voted to defer the decision to install a four-way stop and asked staff to recommend better options.

A four way stop would come in at around $10 000, a stop light would be closer $250 000, while a round-about would be around $1-million.
