First Published:

Police say a street race on the QEW near Guelph Line led to the death of a passenger, a 26 year old Burlington man who was in one of the cars. Other vehicles involved took off after the fatal crash.

A passenger in a black Toyota was killed on the QEW Westbound near Guelph line early this morning.

Ontario Provincial Police say the incident started in Oakville near the Ford plant. Police have heard witness accounts of two to three cars racing down the highway towards Hamilton.

The car hit the concrete median. The 23 year old driver was fine, but the crash left his passenger seriously injured. The man later died in hospital.

OPP Sergeant Kerry Schmidt says investigators are looking into aggressive driving, speed and impairment as potential factors in this crash.

Dangerous driving that can unfortunately result in a tragedy.

Now police are looking for the other vehicles that may have been driving aggressively down the highway with the black Toyota. One could potentially be a grey Audi. As of yet, no charges have been laid.

The 23 year old driver is cooperating with police but the other drivers have not been identified.

OPP are asking anyone who may have dash camera footage of the street race or crash last night on the QEW to contact them. Police are reminding other drivers to call 911 immediately if you witness this kind of aggressive driving out on the roads.
