It’s been two months since the Grand River flooded in Brantford, causing widespread damage. The water is gone now, but a massive amount of debris has been left behind.
Team Rubicon Canada is a veteran led disaster relief organization. The volunteers are cleaning up some of the debris, most of them are veterans like Brian Kenny.
“I was doing military observer role on the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Ukrainian conflict zones.”
He returned home from overseas last year and immediately joined the team.
“It was something I looked up and started the paperwork overseas, as soon as I got on the ground here I met up with them and found that this was the brotherhood I wanted to be a part of.”
The team has been there all week and will be working up until Saturday afternoon. They’re clearing debris from the trails along the river, but even they admit this area won’t return to normal for a very long time.
