PC leader Doug Ford vowing to fire CEO of Hydro One

First Published:

Doug Ford has vowed to fire the CEO of Hydro One and the company’s board of directors if he’s elected premier this spring.

The Progressive Conservative leader says his first act as preimer would be to boot CEO Mayo Schmidt and the entire board.

Ford says seniors are worried about heating their homes and businesses are closing down due to the skyrocketing hydro bills, while Schmidt now earns $6.2 million a year.

Tory energy critic Todd Smith says the government would have to first fire and replace the board of directors to then have them fire the CEO.

Ford would not comment about the potential costs of breaking these contracts or how the move would bring relief to ratepayers.

The spring election is scheduled for June 7.
