Around the Bay Road Race

First Published:

Approximately 10,000 people from all over the globe will be participating in tomorrow’s Around the Bay Road Race in downtown Hamilton. Many of them are spending the day today mentally and physically preparing. Some say Around the Bay is much more than just a race.

Today was the last day to sign up for the race.

Runners had to pick up their bibs and timing chips at First Ontario Centre this afternoon.

People from all over the world flock to Hamilton for the 30km race they say its unique.

It is the oldest road race in North America, 124 years old to be exact. It started three years before the Boston Marathon.

Many participating in the race say it has become a tradition in their family.

If you are headed downtown during the race, expect delays. Many streets will be closed as the runners pass. Some for the entire day.

There is no designated location for parking for the race. If you are driving down to run or watch, you will have to find street parking, or park in pay lots near First Ontario Centre. It will be very busy so those participating should give themselves extra time.
