Demonstrations planned for Sunday

First Published:

Hamilton police say they plan to be highly visible in the Locke street area Sunday after reports surfaced that a couple of demonstrations could take place.

One group reportedly organized a “Patriot walk on Locke” for Sunday and another group, “Hamilton Against Fascism” is responding with a rally of its own. Both are expected to happen in the Victoria park and Locke street area.  The demonstrations follow the vandalism spree on Locke street earlier this month.

“We have to constitutionally guarantee people the right to demonstrate in the peaceful manner and we will. However if it turns into criminal action we won’t tolerate it and we are prepared should somebody engage in that conduct and we will intervene quickly and it is not to be tolerated.” Eric Girt, Hamilton police chief.

Hamilton police are encouraging demonstrators to be considerate towards our community and respect the laws.
