Free dental care, tuition and prescriptions are some of the promises made by NDP leader Andrea Horwath if she becomes premier this spring.

Horwath was in Toronto announcing key elements in her platform but how she plans to pay for all of it will be revealed in the coming weeks.

It was all cheers at the NDP rally held in Toronto today.

As the leader of the New Democratic Party, Andrea Horwath made some big promises.

Horwath says free prescription drugs as well as dental coverage will be under a new plan called Ontario Benefits. Students will have their school loans converted to grants.

On top of this, Horwath says if the New Democrats are chosen to lead the province in the June 7th election, Hydro One will be made public again and Ontarians will see a 30% cut on their bill.

While Doug Ford is planning on cutting public spending by 6 billion dollars, Horwath says that is not the way to go. Adding the NDP will speed up hospital wait times, and make sure seniors receive better care.

But it’s a platform that isn’t sitting well with some.

Many suggesting taxes will be on the rise.

Horwath was asked several times about where the funding for these programs would come from and if she was planning on running a deeper deficit than the Liberals.

A recent online poll shows that, while Horwath has the highest approval rating among party leaders, Doug Ford is most likely to be the next Premier of Ontario, with 43 percent of decided voters voting PC. The Liberals are in second and NDP rank in third place.
