Teens arrested after foot pursuit in downtown Hamilton

First Published:

Two Hamilton teenagers are facing weapons-related charges after a construction worker was threatened with a knife in downtown Hamilton.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, police say a construction worker saw two men walking into a taped off construction zone at John Sopinka Courthouse.

As the men approached a driver who was pulling out of a parking spot, the construction worker walked over and an altercation ensued.

One of the suspects allegedly pulled out a hunting knife and threatened the worker.

“The two suspects were pursued on foot and arrested in the area of Walnut Street and Hunter Street, Hamilton,” said Hamilton police in a news release.

Police say the teens were both carrying BB-style handguns along with a smaller knife and small quantity of marijuana.

Nineteen-year-old Austin Vanduzen, of Hamilton, and 18-year-old Austin Gowland, of Dundas, are both facing multiple charges.
