A Burlington man is in custody following an hours-long standoff with Halton Police.
The incident started as a “domestic situation” at a Milton restaurant Sunday night after people heard the man making death threats.
Officers then followed the man’s car to his home on Colonsay Dr. in Burlington. According to police, he threatened officers with a firearm and barricaded himself inside the home.
Several police and tactical units were called in to assist and spent much of the early morning outside the home.
The house and surrounding area was cordoned off and neighbouring residents were told not to leave their homes. Neighbours reported seeing around a dozen vehicles outside the home for several hours.
Then just before 5 am, about seven hours after the standoff began, officers in full tactical gear forced their way into the house and captured the man. He was loaded into an ambulance and taken away.
52 year old David Lane of Burlington is facing a number of charges including utter threats, dangerous driving and weapons charges.
