Hamilton loses Amazon bid

First Published:

Hamilton is no longer on the list of contenders for the next Amazon head office, but there is still a Canadian city in the running, Toronto. Other Canadian cities are off the amazon list too, including Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Halifax.

Hamilton spent nearly half a million trying to woo Amazon’s next headquarters, in a bid called Unstoppable Hamilton.

“Disappointed but not shocked. We knew it was a long shot, but a shot worth taking.” Mayor Fred Eisenberger.

Still, the city manager says the investment in the bid is already paying dividends. Other companies are showing interest in the city.

The online retailing giant solicited city bids for its next headquarters last year, receiving 238 replies. Amazon is expected to decide on a location for its expansion sometime this year.
