Sears Canada, gone but not forgotten

First Published:

Sears Canada’s remaining stores close for good today.

The retailer declared bankruptcy last year, and began liquidating items at its stores. Thousands of employees have been laid off. It follows the closure of other big-box retailers in Canada, including Target and Zellers.

Meanwhile, it is the end of an era for Rose Minigan. The 98-year old is saying goodbye to her co-workers and customers after 55 years working in the lingerie department at Sears at Eastgate square.

She was popular with customers, with many waiting or calling ahead to make sure they get her help. Minigan says she plans to work on her garden this spring and take a trip to Las Vegas.
