Hamilton police are investigating after a man barricaded himself inside a home in the city’s north end.

Officers were called to the area of Robert St. and East Ave. North around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say the man made threats to police and appears to be in distress.

“As a result of the information obtained during the investigation, Hamilton Police have an increased presence in the area. Currently police are engaged in communications with a barricaded male,” said P.C Jerome Stewart in a news release.

As of 9 a.m. Thursday, there is still a heavy police presence in the area with several officers and tactical units on scene.

Negotiators have been in contact with the man and believe he is alone.

Police say at this time there are no concerns for public safety, however they are asking all vehicular and pedestrian traffic to stay away from the area.

Investigators are asking anyone with information that could help police with the investigation to contact Central CID detectives at 905-546-3816.
