Massive industrial fire in Burlington

First Published:

A massive fire ripped through the Paletta International building off of Appleby Line in Burlington Wednesday afternoon. The building housed Tender Choice Foods, a meat processing facility.

Fire crews got the call just after 4 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived, half of the building was on fire.

“One section of the building did collapse on itself, there are no injuries and the most positive things is everyone was accounted for,” said Dave Lazenby, Burlington Fire Chief.

The smoke was so thick that police had to shut down Appleby line which snarled traffic on the QEW.

Crews had the fire under control by 7 p.m. The Fire Marshall’s office has been called in to investigate the cause of the blaze.
