A Hamilton man has been arrested in connection with the knifepoint sexual assault of a woman on the Bruce Trail.

Shane Stevens, 28, was arrested Monday and charged with sexual assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation.

The arrest comes less than two weeks after a 50-year-old woman reported being attacked while she was walking alone on the trail near the Kenilworth Access around 10:30 a.m.

Police say a man armed with a knife forced the woman into a nearby quiet area and tried to sexually assault her. The woman managed to escape and the man fled the area.

Investigators say Stevens is currently in custody pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with further information about this crime is asked to contact Det. Jason Leek of the Sexual Assault Unit at 905-546-4614 or Crime Stoppers.
