An animal rights activist recorded horrific animal abuse on video while working undercover at a B.C. chicken farm.

The video is very hard to watch, but it has lead to 5 employees losing their jobs after grocery giant Loblaws called for them to be fired.

A volunteer with Mercy for Animals, applied to work for Elite farm services, a labour company contracted by Sofina foods which sells it’s product under the Lilydale brand. He wore a hidden camera and apparently captured the horrific footage fairly easily.

“It was just so common pretty much all the workers were hitting kicking, crushing them, worker tried to rip one of the birds in half.”

Dwayne Dueck the president of Elite Services, says in a statement “the company is taking immediate corrective action” after being “sickened” by the footage it saw.

Loblaws, which sells the Lilydale brand stated “we have zero tolerance for any animal abuse and made it very clear to the supplier that this behaviour has absolutely no place in our food supply chain.”

The SPCA and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency are both investigating and a complaint has been launched with the RCMP.
