93-year-old Michael Yole from Carlisle was sentenced to two and a half years behind bars on Friday, after pleading guilty to attacking his daughter in law with a machete in January. Amanda Yole nearly lost an ear when she was slashed in the head during a family dispute.
It was just after 6pm on January 25th, Michael’s son Marlyn, Amanda, and her 20-year-old daughter were watching T.V. when Michael Yole approached demanding his son sign financial papers. When Marlyn refused, he went for the machete. It was attached to his wrist with a cord, which had to be cut with a knife before it could be wrested away.
Marlyn was to inherit the home and Michael would finish his life there. But after Marlyn, Amanda and Carly moved in November 2015, his lawyer says Michael was squeezed out.
Yole’s lawyer says two years plus time served, and three years probation is a light sentence for attempted murder, but given Yole’s 93 years, he says it’s appropriate.
