With the warmer temperatures we’ve been having, Hamilton police are warning people to stay off the ice but some Hamiltonians still don’t seem to be getting the message.

Monday morning at Bayfront Park, three men walked onto the ice and proceeded to go ice-fishing. The Marine unit was quick to inform them of the danger involved. According to police, ice should be at least 15 centimetres thick to safely walk on it.

Going out on the ice is not illegal. Police say they can only inform the men about the risks involved. Police say it was good they were wearing life-jackets, but it would have been better for them to just stay off the ice altogether.
