Gardiner Expressway closed this weekend for fall maintenance

First Published:

If you’re planning to travel into the City of Toronto this week, keep in mind, a large section of the highway will be closed for annual fall maintenance.

The City of Toronto says the closure includes both directions between Carlaw Avenue and Highway 427 from Friday, Oct. 21 at 11 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 24 at 5 a.m.

Reports suggest the city is taking steps to change traffic-signal timing to enhance traffic flow on nearby routes in order to mitigate congestion as a result of the closure.

The annual closure has road crews doing specific tasks such as cleaning catch basins, marking pavements, pothole and guardrail repairs and inspecting overhead signs.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes like – Lake Shore Boulevard, the Queensway, King Street, Bloor Street and Evans Avenue during the weekend closure.
