story that aired on Friday is getting credit for helping a Hamilton amputee recover his beloved dog. Sammi disappeared from Wayde Darr’s lap in front of Jackson Square, 8 days later to her owner’s incredible relief, the yorkshire-maltese cross was returned.

When we first spoke to Darr on Friday, he was deeply depressed. A week before, after taking new prescribed medicine, Darr fell asleep outside Jackson Square in his wheelchair, with his dog on his lap. When he woke his best friend was gone.

Late Saturday night Hamilton police got a call from a woman who said she’d seen Darr’s story on CHCH News and she had found Sammi. That same night animal control officers picked Sammi up. Darr’s sister picked Sammi up yesterday and says everyone was in tears, including animal services staff.

Darr says Sammi has been a little celebrity since she’s been home, everyone he passes is so happy to see them together again.
