Several schools from Halifax to Nunavut were either evacuated or closed due to bomb threats last week.

Sunday night Hamilton police received a 9-1-1 call warning of bombs planted at McMaster University and Mohawk College. Joseph Brant hospital was also threatened. No bombs were ever found at any of the locations. Security expert David Hyde doesn’t think the latest flurry of bomb threats to public institutions in the last week is linked to any terror group.

“I think this is someone who’s intent on disrupting the environment, they want to make the news with the various environments that they’re targetting with these threats and they’re probably also interested to see how the response goes.”

Police deemed this a hoax, which has been the case over the past week where schools in PEI, Nova Scotia, Winnepeg and Nunavut were either evacuated or closed due to the threats. The RCMP is taking this very seriously and are working with local police to find the source.
