Hamilton boil water advisory update

Frustrations are growing in a Hamilton West Mountain neighborhood where people have been without clean running water for days. As we first told you yesterday, a boil water advisory is in effect for the area, and there is no end in sight.

It’s been a tough few days for those living under the boil water advisory.

“It’s difficult. It’s a lot of boiling water, buying water, remembering not to use faucet water”

“After I wash the dishes by hand I have to rinse them in the bleach, which smells bad and scares me in and of itself.”

Some 260 homes in the Brigadoon area on Hamilton’s West Mountain were delivered notices Wednesday saying the water isn’t safe to drink after the city found high levels of bacteria. The city says it isolated the problem and only those living in the area are affected.

Angelo Sollazzo already has a lot on his plate caring for his mother who has Alzheimer’s. The water not being safe is making his job much harder.

“When I tell her not to use the water she just gets upset. She doesn’t understand.”

And she forgets, so he has to keep an eye on her.

Debbie Costello is picking up her grandkids who live in the area, something she’s had to do more often because bath time here would be too complicated.

For these young girls the hardest part has been remembering not to use the tap when they brush their teeth.

So far nobody has gotten sick from drinking the water, but residents here say they’re tired of worrying about getting sick and just hope that the city can fix the problem soon.

The city still doesn’t know how the high levels of bacteria got in the water.

**Don’t post this part if it’s after 9pm….obviously**
The city is waiting on test results from yesterday to see if the bacteria in the water is gone. Those results should be out by 9 o’clock tonight. If the tests come back clean, the city will test the water one more time for confirmation. If all is clear, the advisory will be lifted by tomorrow night.
