The province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate a double shooting in Toronto’s Annex neighbourhood yesterday afternoon. We know that plain clothed Halton police officers were tailing the suspect now accused of shooting and wounding prominent criminal defence lawyer Randall Barrs.

At around 3:30pm 51 year old Grayson Delong got out of his car and shot 66 year old criminal defence lawyer Randall Barrs in the driveway of his law office at 23 Bedford Road. Delong seated in a silver Honda Civic was then himself shot by a Halton police officer.  It is not clear how or if the suspect and lawyer know each other.

Randall Barrs is recovering with gunshot wounds to his legs and Grayson remains in serious condition. He was not well enough to appear in court today where he was charged with 15 counts including attempted murder.

The SIU investigates all incidents involving police which involves death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
