It’s business as usual today for thousands of GM workers in Ontario.

A tentative agreement has been reached between General Motors and its Canadian Auto Workers to avoid a strike and cement GM’s footprint in Canada for years to come.

Unifor announced a half hour past its midnight strike deadline that it reached the framework of a deal with GM’s 4000 Ontario workers that includes wage increases and future product commitments.

Unifor National President Jerry Dias this morning. He says the tentative agreement also sees some product coming from Mexico to the St. Catharines engine plant.

Ratification votes for all workers in Oshawa, St. Catharines and Woodstock are set for Sunday. If ratified, Unifor will use the GM contract as a template when it bargains next with Ford or Fiat Chrysler.
