The man who had a gun planted in his home by a crooked Hamilton police officer is now suing the force for $1.5 million in damages.

Darren Mork’s lawyer announced that his client is suing 41-year old Robert Hansen, the Hamilton Police Board and former police chief Glenn De Caire. Robert Hansen was a former detective with the guns and gangs unit and was found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice and sentenced to five years in prison after it was discovered that he lied to a judge in order to obtain a search warrant in search for a gun that he organized to be planted. Mork’s lawyer says police should have had procedures in place to prevent this from ever happening.

Darren Mork’s lawyer, Nick Cake says his client’s life has been torn apart from the ordeal. He says he’s been travelling across the country without a home, has a strong distrust with police officers and still suffers pain from his initial arrest. Robert Hansen’s appeal date is still unknown but the disgraced Hamilton officer still has charges under the police services act, there’s a hearing planned for Tuesday at Central Station. Cake says his team will await the outcome of both proceedings before moving forward
