Scorched asphalt, melted parts and shards of glass are all that’s left from a fatal crash that killed a man after the car he was riding in along Highway 53 near Paris lost control and smashed into a tree, bursting into flames.

“I heard an explosion, came to the door, just seeing flames and then realizing it was a car that was on fire and was totally engulfed.”

The car hit the tree so hard and the battery shot out from under the hood.

The passenger, was killed on the spot. The 19-year old driver from Norfolk survived and could be facing charges.

There are flowers on the exact corner that have been at the crash site for years. They were placed there after a woman lost her life when her car slammed into the exact same tree.

That woman was 67-year old Barbara Kertesz. She died after her car slammed into that tree in the summer of 2012.

There have been several fatal crashes over the last couple of days. Four people have now been killed on Ontario roads since the May long weekend.
