Earth Day

Today is Earth Day, and events are being held around the world to show support for environmental protection. Earth Day focuses on those little changes that we all can make to help protect our planet.

One of the biggest issues our planet is facing is climate change. Last year was the hottest year on record. To commemorate Earth Day 170 countries, Canada included, will be signing the Paris climate agreement. As part of that agreement countries will set their own goals of reducing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. That deal was reached last year, but they wanted to sign it today, on Earth Day, as a symbolic gesture of what the agreement is about.

But this years main focus for Earth Day are trees. Our Nicole Martin visited Ohsweken today where they were giving away free trees to help preserve Six Nations forests.
