A 4-year-old boy is dead after drowning in the family pool.

CHCH spoke with neighbours at the scene who are devastated and describe the little boy as one of the happiest kids they have ever seen. They say the 4-year-old’s mom and dad are great parents and they are shocked this happened to such a wonderful family.

Police say the toddler was located by his parents in the family pool. Neighbours said they heard a commotion and saw the boy’s mother performing CPR in the front doorway. Paramedics arrived on scene shortly after and rushed the boy to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The neighbours say the parents were always looking out for their child.

“These are great neighbours. They’re a good mom and dad, that baby is their whole life,” a neighbour said.

“They were very vigilant parents,” another neighbour added. “They were with that kid all the time. He was never unattended.”

Police say this appears to be a tragic incident right on the heels of Father’s Day. There’s no indication of criminality and detectives are treating the investigation as a sudden death.

The neighbours are in shock while remembering the sweet boy with a big smile who would always wave to them through the front window.

“As a parent, that would be the ultimate worst nightmare,” the neighbour lamented. “And because I have grandkids it would just break me.”

Police will spend the night speaking with the parents who remain by their child’s side at the hospital.
