Dozens of cats were living in filth in a house in central St. Catharines. The owner had already moved out and the house was in foreclosure, but 29 cats were left behind. It took officials weeks to get them all out. Neighbours say the owner moved out months ago, but on the inside, cats were everywhere and the odour was unbearable.
The Lincoln County SPCA and Niagara Action for Animals carried out crates of cats on Tuesday, and luckily, they are all in relatively good health. They are very thin and there is concern for their lungs because of the stench of ammonia. There were no litter boxes, so the floor of the house became one big litter box. Niagara Action for Animals and SPCA locations in St. Catharines, Welland and Fort Erie, and the OSPCA are taking the animals for now.
