The Hamilton Tiger Cats still haven’t clinched a playoff spot and their path to do so got a little trickier with wide receiver Brandon Banks suspended for the next two games for violating the CFL’s drug policy. While it’s bad news for Hamilton, it’s also a sign that the league is cleaning up it’s act.

“Just apologized to the team and let everyone know that I let them down and let everyone know that I own up to the mistake that I made.” Brandon Banks.

Banks is suspended for the next two games without pay after he tested positive for MDA or Sally, a party drug more so than a performance enhancer. The loss of last year’s most outstanding special teams player comes as the Ticats take on the Red Blacks on Friday, where a win clinches a playoff spot and a home playoff game.

Banks is the latest player to be disciplined under the league’s new drug policy that now hands out suspensions upon first offences compared to just a warning under previous policies. To some the CFL was a league that was very lenient when it came to either recreational or performance-enhancing drugs, in 2014 the league conducted 100 random drug tests, that number has been increased to 500 this year.
