Former Ontario Tory leader Patrick Brown removed from caucus

First Published:

Former Ontario Progressive Conservative leader Patrick Brown has been removed from the party’s caucus.

Interim leader Vic Fedeli issued a statement regarding the decision Friday morning, just days before the legislature is scheduled to resume sitting.

“Shortly after becoming Interim Leader, I asked Patrick Brown to step aside from the PC Caucus. The legislature is set to resume sitting on Tuesday February 20TH following Family Day,” said Fedeli in the statement. “Earlier today, Mr. Brown was notified that he has been removed from the PC Caucus effective immediately. The same procedure was followed when Mr. Brown removed Jack MacLaren from the PC Caucus.”

Brown stepped down as PC leader last month amid sexual assault allegations reported by CTV News that he categorically denies.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Brown wrote that he is suing the broadcaster over its reporting of what he alleges are false accusations of sexual misconduct.

CTV News has repeatedly said it stands by its reporting. In an interview with Global News, Brown said he believes political rivals are behind the allegations.
