Just ahead of the National day of China, Premier Kathleen Wynne is highlighting the relationship between that country and Ontario. More specifically the opportunities for trade. The Premier has made two trips to China in an effort to boost trade between Ontario and China.
China is expected to replace the United States as the worlds largest economy and Kathleen Wynne wants to make sure Ontario benefits. Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati accompanied Wynne to China last year to confirm details surrounding a one billion dollar proposed development in his city, a high rise luxery condo on 2 acres of land in Niagara Falls just meters from the 18th hole at the Thundering Waters Golf Club
Experts say right now Ontario imports more than it exports and the Premier is trying to change that with a focus on green energy and telecommunications technology.
“This isn’t really about food and agricultural products she is really looking at technology to have higher paying jobs and can we start exporting those products to China.” Marvin Ryder.
The Premier wants to make sure Ontario doesn’t get lost on the world stage. “Engaging China is going to be really important to the economy of Canada and of course the economy of Ontario.” Michael Chan.
Last year exports from Ontario to China accounted for $5 billion, that equals for 2.5% of Ontario’s total exports.
