Voting day is on October 19th, but more than 1.6 million Canadians have already cast a ballot during the first two days of advance polling. That’s up 34 per cent from the 2011 federal election.

Elections Canada admitted that the increased volume of voters took them by surprise. The agency had to call in additional workers over the holiday weekend to help with the crowds.

They note that advance polls do take longer than voting on election day because advance voters must sign a form confirming they have cast their ballots early. Political scientists suggest that Canadians are interested in this election, especially since it’s a close race.

According to Leger research the majority of Canadians will make a decision two days before the election. But if you can’t make it out to a polling station on the 19th, you still have time today. The location of your advance poll can be found on the back of your voter information card.

If you can’t do that, you can also vote at one of the 400 Election Canada offices across the country before 6 pm tomorrow. You can also vote by mail: the deadline to apply online is also tomorrow night at 6.
